Lost For Words

Closing in on a month from the last blog post and I still can't think of anything worthwhile to write, especially if you exclude the boring day-to-day stuff. Guess I'll just have to go on that anyway.
Uni-related, things were fairly busy starting around 3 weeks ago up until last weekend. Ultimately, the steady stream of work meant things got left to the last minute. This, in turn, meant items due later in the week didn't get started until later in the week. Such a vicious circle, but we got there in the end. Two of my subjects had mid-semester and end-of-semester tests which didn't go too badly, so I've only got 2 exams this year, albeit one on a Saturday afternoon.
Currently I'm at home for swotvac and plan to head down to the lake at some point to check out the water levels - I've heard they haven't dropped too much now that the cooler weather is here, but it'll still be good to check it out first hand. Also this week, I had my room rearranged on me. On the plus side, the new layout is pretty good, and my room's now fairly clean (although that's probably because the hallway is still half filled with bits and pieces).
As for the T7G project I'm working on, not much has happened here either. Both Spookypeanut and myself haven't done a lot although jvprat has been slowing working on implementing a few things to the ScummVM plugin including initial music support and preliminary support for the other Groovie games. One of the first things I plan to do when I get the chance to fiddle with the C# implementation to move from multi-threading back to single-threading as it eliminates some of the occasional read/write access hazards I've been experiencing.
Finally, to wrap up this post I've also just finished reformatting my server with a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04 which is now happily sitting out connected to the TV again :)
The Geohash

And now for something a little different - yesterday I partook in a "geohash". Simply put, it generates a random location to meet up with other strangers (who, most likely, also follow the comic). Yesterday wasn't too long a drive for me so I went along to find a few other people also show up - we had a little bit of a chat then disbanded (but only after my friend accidentally set my car alarm off). Now for the comic to explain it:
There's a wiki to explain a bit more of the details as well as locate local groups along with an interactive map but don't go along expecting people other than people working or studying in the fields of math/science/engineering or other geek or nerd-like activities :p
I'm also just posting to let people know I'm still around - currently Uni is a bit of a pain with assignments and reports due but I'm sure I'll get through them one day at a time. It's already less than 3 weeks until swotvac starts which means exams aren't too far away. I've only got two this year, but there are also two "tests" the week before that which could prove difficult.
Mid-Semester Break

Once again, mid-semester break has hit. As much as I would like to get some study done between now and the 28th, I can't see it happening. It never does. And I always regret it during the first week back.
I've got a few uni things it would be nice to get done over the "holidays" such as an optional assignment due this Friday coming, as well as revision for a test on the second day back. Other than that, it would be nice to get some general study done, some time spent sailing, and some time spent on some of my personal projects :)
We've also got relatives visiting from Tuesday through Friday which could throw a spanner in the works in terms of spare time too ;)
V3 Progress!

Probably not very interesting for the rest of you, but for me, I'm quite excited. I've just finished knocking up a first revision "simple" text module for V3 of SSC (the PHP application that runs this site). Unfortunately, uni starts tomorrow so progress could slow a little. On the plus side, only the news/blog module and photo gallery to go until I can upgrade - I'm certainly looking forward to it :)
Oh, and did anyone notice the three posts before this were each made 10 days apart on the 5th, 15th and 25th? I only did after I made 3rd one.
Online Again

As some may have noticed, this site was unavailable for a portion of the weekend. From what I've found out, a problem with the file-system on the server I'm hosted on was corrupted. While this took the better part of the weekend to fix, I'm impressed as this is the first time I've noticed any downtime since signing up in June last year :)
In a second sense, I've also just gotten my internet connection up at my uni accommodation after driving down yesterday morning (first time in metro areas with a manual). It was rather annoying yesterday afternoon not being able to check emails or anything. My room is still a complete mess with empty and part-empty bags still lying everywhere and assorted junk covering all the other surfaces.
Suppose I should do something about that now...
